camera prop

so, i had some parts lying around, including a few lenses, so i decided to do a prop camera. i wanted it to appear old, but not unsophisticated, in this regard im quite happy with the design. i started out with a general idea of how it was going to be put together. i knew i wanted it to be more than a simple camera, but also have image viewing, like you find on all digital cameras. im not sure if it could actually be done, but i image a camera that, when taking a photo, produces a slide, which can then be projected onto the piece of glass suspended behind the camera. points if you can guess what video game inspired my design. anyway, i started with a block of wood and a large pvc connector, which together gave the camera its basic shape. the aperture on the front is made using the top of one of those prescription medication bottles (which would allow me to also screw something onto the front, like a telescope....) i used some sheet plastic for the sides, and other odds and ends for everything else. i even had some rubber feet to put on the base of the thing.

  5. Hi Helios, 'tis kaelisebonrai from the HA forums, I'd imagine that camera is from... Myst IV - Revelation?

By the by, you might be interested in the http://mystonline.com/ site, and various (MYST) Uru community. I've been planning to recreate some locations in Uru in model form since.. around late 2007, and early 2008. You also might want to check out www.guildofwriters.com as well. =)

  6. so good to hear from someone after my own heart. i sadly discovered my Myst interests too late to enjoy Uru when it was still up, but since then i have gotten to see some of its locations through Uru complete chronicles. i will be very excited to see what you come up with in regard to Uru models, which locations did you have in mind?

and yes, the camera is directly inspired by the camera and image viewer in Myst 4, do you think i did that wonderful contraption justice?

  7. I believe you definitely did do said contraption justice, indeed! By the by, if you sign up at the www.guildofwriters.com forums, and post in the "Drizzle and Offline KI" forum, you might even be able to gain access to the Ages from the most recent version of Uru ("MOUL") from within Uru Complete Chronicles.

Mostly, I was planning on Doing some locations such as Bevin, or another version of the "Neighbourhood" concept. Not sure what others I'd do, but, the "Bevin/Kirel" concept is one of the ones that most intrigues me.

At the moment, the Uru community is waiting on Cyan Worlds to keep their promise to open source Uru. So, there may be a way to access Uru again, soon. Though, technically, some people have online servers up and running already. =)

  8. hmm, i will have to look into these other ages, i did not realize i could access them with UCC.

i could definitely see some wonderful things being done with Bevin/Kirel, or indeed any of the D'ni locations. after your first post i got to thinking about doing an Uru model myself, after my favorite location (strangely enough), Er'cana.
perhaps through a joint effort we might bring the wonderful locations of Uru into the tangible realm, at least a few of them anyway.
